Your interview day checklist

Everything you need to feel ready and enjoy it. Tick items as you go, or listen to it.

🎥 Setup

🕐 Be in your space one hour before the first time, thirty minutes once you know the tools.📷 Camera at the height of your eyes. Your phone camera is fine if it is better than the laptop.💡 Light in front of you, like a window or a lamp behind the camera. Not a window behind you.🌿 If you can, nature or plants behind you.🎧 Headphones or a close microphone. Good sound matters most.🔋 Charge your devices, put the phone on silent, close other tabs and apps.📶 Wired internet, or sit close to the router.💧 Water within reach, bathroom just before, and try to finish eating two to three hours before.🎬 Do a one minute test recording and watch it.

💻 Software

🌐 Use Chrome and open the Riverside link ten to fifteen minutes early.🎙️ Allow the camera and microphone, and pick the right ones in Riverside.🔗 Use the Riverside link we sent you, not another link.⏳ When we finish, stay in the room. Do not close the tab until the upload reaches one hundred percent. Loto stays too.

🔬 Why this works

Research on narrative persuasion suggests that when people are absorbed in a personal story, they resist less and are more changed by it than by direct arguments. It is called narrative transportation.

Research on psychological reactance shows that people often push back when they feel told what to do. Experience shared as experience invites them in.

So the more personal and specific you are, the more your words land. This is my reading of that research, not a promise.

Every conversation here comes from your own direct experience, in yourself and in others. We ask: what have you experienced, what has worked for you, what has served you, and what do you practice, however subtle? We are not asking for advice or what others should do. There is one clear space near the end for a message to the audience. We start with a short presence practice, then your experience of presence.

Best conditions for the recording 🎥

Riverside records locally on your device and uploads afterward, so a shaky connection won't ruin the final quality. Four things make the real difference.

📶 Connection: use Chrome, close every other tab or app, and use wired internet if you can, otherwise sit close to the router.

🎧 Sound: headphones are mandatory, wired or Bluetooth both work. An external or headset mic beats your laptop's built in one, if you have one.

📷 Picture: light facing you rather than behind you, camera at eye level, and a quiet room with your phone on silent.

⏳ Before and after: do a quick mic and camera check the moment you join, and let the recording finish uploading before closing the tab at the end.

Don't stress about internet dropping mid-call, it only affects the live preview, never the final recording.
